Rooted in early 20th-century design heritage, this piece draws inspiration from the work of Ernest Sallis Benney, whose distinctive Art Deco patterns brought rhythm and refinement to textiles of the era. Elements of his original motifs are thoughtfully reinterpreted, forming a harmonious arrangement and structure of classic Deco design.

ABOUT HAND-KNOTTING

Originating in Tibet, this weaving method wraps yarn carefully around two warps and a temporary rod. Once the rod is covered with loops, a cut is made to form a pile. Composed of thousands of individual knots, it requires highly skilled artisans and time, making them very high quality and long.

ABOUT HAND-TUFTING

Hand-tufted rugs are created with strands of wool punched through the backing using a handheld tufting tool. Once the design is complete, a layer of backing is applied to secure the tufts, and the surface is sheared to reveal a soft, even pile. The pile can be sheared into various heights and patterns, allowing for variations in both feel and design and creating a hardwearing, soft finish.

ABOUT FLATWEAVE

On horizontal looms, artisans pass the weft yarns carefully through the warp, beating them tightly into place to form a strong, flat surface to create a tactile, versatile flatweave.
