Bespoke Rugs for a Country House Reimagined
When Barlow & Barlow restored Kin House - a Grade II-listed Georgian manor in Kington Langley, Wiltshire, now one of the UK's most in-demand private event houses - every rug in the property was made bespoke by Pelican House.Lucy Barlow's studio designed the rugs; Pelican House advised on materials, techniques and construction for each space, balancing the design vision against budget and the practical demands of a property hosting everything from dinners for 20 to cocktails for 200. For high-traffic areas, handwoven jute delivered durability with a natural texture that ages well underfoot.
Founder Bella Valenzia oversaw production in person, sitting with the weavers in India to check every colour and weave against the approved designs. Each piece was handcrafted start to finish; hand-dyed, handwoven, hand-finished.
The result: rugs that hold their own in Barlow & Barlow's fearless schemes, and stand up to life in a working events house. The collaboration went on to become a permanent collection; the PH × Barlow & Barlow Chequerboard series, including the Jute Chequerboard.
Pelican House offers a full bespoke service for interior designers and hospitality projects; design development, rendered visuals, handcrafted samples within five weeks, and installation. All designs remain exclusive to the client.

Handcraft for an Open House Brand
The Hoxton has spent 20 years building hotels rooted in their neighbourhoods - 19 properties across the UK, Europe and North America since the first opened in a former Shoreditch car park in 2006. Pelican House rugs now feature across the brand, from guestrooms at The Hoxton, Dublin to the reimagined Shoreditch original.At Shoreditch, the 20th anniversary refresh by Ennismore's in-house design team, AIME Studios, brought Pelican House into The Apartment; seven private rooms and a shared Pantry hired for everything from press days and presentations to private dinners and intimate weddings. Against retained checkerboard floors and a palette of sage green and plum, the patterned rugs bring texture and intimacy to rooms in constant commercial rotation.
In Dublin, Pelican House rugs ground guestrooms with the same qualities: handmade depth, colour that holds the scheme together, and construction built for the daily realities of a working hotel.
Every rug is handcrafted by skilled artisans, hand-dyed, handwoven and hand-finished, with sizes and colourways tailored to each space. For a brand defined by layered, lived-in interiors, the fit is natural: floors with the character of the real thing, made to measure.
