MARWAR

The Marwar Collection is named for the school of painting that grew up in the Rajput courts of Rajasthan. It sat within the wider tradition of Rajput art and absorbed Mughal influence, but answered to its own eye; its own stories, techniques and local knowledge, shaped by the light and landscape of Marwar. Its painters filled the page with deities, animals, birds and flowers, with scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata, and with the folktales handed down over generations. It remains one of the pillars of Rajasthan's cultural heritage, still prized by collectors, still a living income for the artists and families who carry it forward.

We've translated that world into wool. Marwar is one body of work, not fourteen separate pieces: a single earthy palette runs its full length - terracotta and deep red, ochre and gold, sage and olive, blush and cream.
